CTOnews.com According to Car and Driver, Mercedes-AMG C63 and E63 models will re-use V8 engines in 2026.

According to the report, many AMG owners are dissatisfied with the current four-and six-cylinder powertrains, and Mercedes is considering reintroducing the V8 engine in the high-performance C-and E-class models.

The new C63 models feature turbocharged plug-in hybrid four-cylinder engines, while the next-generation Mercedes-AMG E63 is rumored to feature PHEV turbocharged inline six-cylinders.

Obviously these engines cannot compete with Audi and BMW. BMW, for its part, is unclear about the next-generation M3 / M4, but the successor to the current M5 will retain its V8 engine while increasing electric range.

Audi's upcoming high-performance models will also be PHEVs, but they won't be reduced to four cylinders.

CTOnews.com quoted the media as saying Mercedes is busy updating its 4.0 V8 engine to meet stricter Euro 7 emission standards.

According to AMG senior engineers directly involved in the matter, the C63 and E63 require only minor body modifications to accommodate the V8 twin-turbo engine, PHEV battery plus electric motor and auxiliary equipment.
