CTOnews.com, August 6 (Xinhua)-- Google is about to launch a Pixel Watch 2 smartwatch, which will be equipped with a new processor, ultra-wideband technology and larger batteries to bring better performance and experience to users, according to Android Authority.

Android Authority quoted a Google insider as saying that the Pixel Watch 2 will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor, a highly efficient chip based on 4nm technology, which is significantly higher in performance and power consumption than the Samsung Exynos 9110 processor (10nm) used in the previous generation of Pixel Watch. The new chip has four cores running at the frequency of 1.7GHz, and the performance of the Adreno 702 GPU has also been greatly improved.

Another highlight of Pixel Watch 2 is the support of Ultra Wideband (UWB), a wireless communication technology that can achieve high-precision positioning and data transmission. Pixel Watch 2 will have a built-in NXP SR100T UWB module, which can implement a variety of application scenarios. For example, users can find their mobile phone or other devices through a watch, unlock a car that supports digital keys through a watch, and even seamlessly switch media playback between a watch and a tablet or smart speaker.

The battery capacity of the Pixel Watch 2 has also increased, from 294mA to 306ma. although the improvement is small, combined with the energy-saving advantages of the new processor, it should be able to extend the life of the watch. The Pixel Watch 2's display remains the same, with a 1.2-inch round OLED screen and a resolution of 384 x 384 pixels. However, the switch of display suppliers from BOE to Samsung displays could lead to improvements in brightness or power savings.

Pixel Watch 2 will be pre-installed with Wear OS 4 system, based on Android 13 development, support for dynamic themes and other functions. In addition, Pixel Watch 2 will support seamless updates, which means that users can update the system in the background without affecting the normal use of the watch.

It is reported that there will be two versions of Pixel Watch 2: Eos supports LTE networks and Aurora only supports Wi-Fi networks.
