Microsoft Edge browser business model will be launched next week, separating work from personal browsing

CTOnews.com August 8, a few months ago at Build 2023, Microsoft announced a new model for Edge web browsers, called Edge for Business, which entered a public preview on the same day. Now Microsoft has revealed that the new model will be officially launched next week.

CTOnews.com noted that Microsoft announced in a recent blog post that Edge for Business would be launched in the week of August 17. At that time, the latest version of the Edge browser, version 116, will also be open to all users. Microsoft added that any user who uses Microsoft Entra ID to log on to Edge version 116 "will automatically switch to Microsoft Edge for Business mode".

Microsoft reminds you that this is not a new version of the Edge browser, but a new mode that starts when using Entra ID. Microsoft said:

IT maintains complete control over policy and function management and configuration through Edge for Business. At the same time, the management of Microsoft Edge is relatively loose, and the IT department maintains control over the security and compliance policies of personal browsing windows. As users separate work from personal browsing and content, personal data can be excluded from enterprise synchronization in the work browser window, providing users with the privacy they want.

When users log in to Edge using Entra ID for the first time, they will see a new Edge for Business icon and a new location to place their profile photos. Any passwords, data, and favorites that already belong to the user's work materials are automatically transferred to Edge for Business. Microsoft also pointed out that Edge for Business will also be launched for mobile users. Microsoft said that in the future, the mobile will also provide new icons, Microsoft 365 management center management settings and other functions.
