CTOnews.com, August 8 (Xinhua)-- residents of Melbourne, Australia witnessed a special "light show" in the early hours of Tuesday, with a very bright fireball flying across the night sky.

A large number of witnesses said they saw the fireball and said the ground was shaking. Netizen Steve Forbes wrote: "I am sure there has just been another aftershock in Melbourne", wearing the label "earthquake".

The video captures the bright fireball passing through the night sky, which experts believe is space junk rather than a meteor or comet. Astronomers speculate that the object is likely to be a reentrant, part of a rocket or an old satellite.

The Australian Space Agency later announced that the fireball that cut through the sky was likely to be the wreckage of the Russian Soyuz 2 rocket when it re-entered the Earth's atmosphere.
