This requirement is consistent with the number of folds Samsung claims for its Flip and Fold series. Rahman added that for equipment with "torque hinges", at least 80 per cent of the original torque needs to be maintained after 200000 folds and unfolds. In other words, Google wants the free hover hinge to maintain its stiffness rather than become loose over time.

CTOnews.com notes that Google does not seem to impose other hardware requirements, such as the use of ultra-thin glass.

Slightly extending the software update promises that Google will also require Android OEM vendors to provide two large versions of operating system updates and three-year security patches for collapsible devices. This is similar to the general minimum requirement of Android, that is, two large operating system updates and two-year security patch updates. Given the high price of the foldable phone itself, this is disappointing. But at least vendors like Google, Samsung and OPPO have provided security patches for up to five years.
