Toyota is considering launching a plug-in / fuel cell / pure electric Prado model.

CTOnews.com, August 13 (Xinhua) Toyota launched the new Prado on August 2 (sold in North America under the name Landcooler / Land Cruiser), foreign media Automotive News reported on Saturday. Keita Moritsu, the company's chief engineer, said in an interview that they are considering introducing more versions of the new car in the future, such as plug-in hybrids, fuel cells and pure electricity.

Keita Moritsu points out that since the new Prado is built on the TNGA-F platform, it will require structural compromise if it is to be electrified. Toyota's existing electric vehicles, such as the bZ4X and Lexus RZ, are all based on the adjusted version of the TNGA platform.

Keita Moritsu said that at present, each form of power has its advantages and disadvantages, and the ultimate goal needs to be achieved through a variety of paths. "for example, fuel cell vehicles are very suitable for long-distance driving and traction, but will be restricted by limited infrastructure."

However, Toyota still has no detailed plans for plug-in hybrid or pure-electric Prado models. For reference, the recent launch of the new Prado in North America and China uses the new 2.4L turbocharged Turbo Hybrid hybrid system with a maximum output power of 243kW (330hp), a maximum torque of 630Nm and a full-time all-wheel drive system.

CTOnews.com Note: the new Prado is a fuel-driven hybrid model that cannot be charged externally and cannot enjoy subsidies for new energy vehicles, including green cards. Similar gas-electric hybrid models also include Wuling Star Hybrid version, Toyota Prius, Nissan Qijun e-POWER and so on.

At present, the hybrid models that can enjoy the green card policy are plug-in hybrid models, including plug-in hybrid models, such as BYD DM-i series, Great Wall Hi4 all-wheel drive series, ideal L series and so on.
