Tesla's German factory lowered its weekly production target to 4350 vehicles in July and August and plans to cut production further, Tesla internal documents and sources revealed on Aug.24.

Tesla announced on social media platforms at the end of March that the German superplant was producing 5000 cars a week, but anonymous employees said it was a one-time event and the average output since then was much lower.

Tesla said in June that its German factories were hiring fewer temporary workers than initially because they no longer needed them, but that its production targets were still steadily advancing.

Screenshots of Tesla's internal workflow software show the company reducing its July and August targets to 870 vehicles per day.

However, even this goal is not always achieved. According to software screenshots, production was only 692 on July 25 and 806 on July 28. The report quoted employees inside the factory as saying that the current internal target was further lowered to 750 vehicles per day, equivalent to less than 4000 vehicles per week.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tesla has cut prices several times since the end of last year and added discounts and other incentives to reduce inventory in the U.S., China and other markets to fend off competition and economic uncertainty.

Tesla announced plans in July to expand capacity at its German plant to 1 million vehicles a year, but did not provide a specific timetable and had previously declined to comment on when the plant would reach capacity of 6000 vehicles a week.

Production at Tesla's German plant reportedly reached 4000 vehicles per week at the end of February, ahead of planned production. But production seems to have slowed since then.
