CTOnews.com August 29, Microsoft launched a Chromium-based Edge browser in early 2020 to provide a more flexible and compatible browsing experience. After several years of development, Edge has changed from a simple alternative to Google Chrome to a browser with many features but dubious practicality. The good news for users who think Edge browsers are too bloated is that Microsoft has announced the abandonment of some features to improve the user experience and streamline browsers.

CTOnews.com noted that Microsoft pushed Edge 117 to the Beta channel for final testing a few days ago and is expected to release it to the public next month. This release includes some important changes and optimizations, such as improved Microsoft Edge for Business experience, switching between work and personal browsing, new Smart Find features and E-tree in Wallet. More importantly, Microsoft announced the abandonment of the following features:

To improve the end-user experience and simplify the more tools menu, the following functions will be discarded: math solvers, picture dictionaries, citations, grammar tools, and children's mode.

Math solvers, picture dictionaries, citations, grammar tools, and children's models are all targeted to specific needs, and it's not surprising that Microsoft has abandoned them for simplicity. Obsolete features mean that Microsoft will no longer develop these features, so there will be no upgrades or major changes to these features in the future. However, obsolete features may still be available until Microsoft removes them permanently.
