CTOnews.com, August 30 (Xinhua) Samsung's latest folding screen phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, has been tested for durability by YouTube blogger JerryRigEverything, which shows that the redesigned hinges and rear case of the phone are stronger than expected.

Because the outer screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is larger and better than the previous model, JerryRigEverything first tested the outer screen. The results were good, with marked scratches only under tools with a Morse hardness of 6, thanks to the Corning gorilla glass Victus 2 protective layer.

CTOnews.com noted that the phone's inner folding screen is clearly scratched under the pre-installed screen saver and under the tool with a Mohs hardness of level 3, which explains why Samsung alerts users to the protection of the folding screen when starting up, and the company recommends not pressing the protective film too much when using the folding screen. In addition, there is a layer of plastic wrapped around the display screen, which is also easy to scratch, which acts as a buffer to protect the folding screen from damage when it is closed. This is particularly important because Samsung has narrowed the gap between screens in this generation of models.

During the test, JerryRigEverything also scratched the aluminum frame, rear shell and newly designed hinges, all of which were also vulnerable to scratches. The other extreme test is the sand test, where the JerryRigEverything sprinkles sand over the entire device, including hinges, folding screens and outer screens. Surprisingly, the Flip 5 is not much affected because it has IPX8 protection and is not dustproof, but the sand has little effect on it.

Finally, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 successfully passed a key reverse bending test, making it one of the few folding screen phones to pass the test. This proves that Samsung's redesigned hinges and the glass on the back of the device are still very strong, preventing the device from bending back too much.
