Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen grass Luo Yuzi for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com August 30 news, Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology today successfully developed "with dual anticoagulant effect of small diameter artificial blood vessels," official said, The small diameter artificial blood vessels can not only prevent acute thrombosis, Also can promote endothelial cell adhesion and proliferation, Promote tissue regeneration, CTOnews.com after inquiry learned, Relevant research results published in "International Journal of Biomacromolecules" In.

Li Lei, co-author of the paper and associate researcher of Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that commercial large-diameter artificial blood vessels represented by polyester, polyurethane and polytetrafluoroethylene have been widely used in aortic replacement, and the long-term patency effect is good. However, when these materials are applied to small-diameter blood vessels less than 6 mm in diameter, transplantation failure often occurs due to acute thrombosis.

The researchers found that heparin has a strong anticoagulant effect and is often used as a functional molecule for graft modification, but it cannot directly resist platelet adhesion and aggregation.

To this end, the researchers compounded heparin with the antiplatelet drug aspirin and grafted the complex onto the surface of polycaprolactone/polyurethane composite tubes to prepare new small-diameter artificial blood vessels.

Since then, the researchers have carried out experiments on the implantation of new small-diameter artificial blood vessels in rabbit carotid arteries. The results showed that the small-diameter artificial blood vessel could effectively prevent acute thrombosis after implantation and maintain complete patency for one month. More importantly, postoperative pathological results showed that there was no accumulation of red blood cells and thrombosis at the anastomotic site of the graft, no stenosis and obstruction in the vascular lumen, and gradual regeneration of the intimal layer.
