CTOnews.com Sept. 2, Samsung has pushed an One UI 5 Watch update based on Wear OS 4 to Galaxy Watch 4 Watch users in some countries and regions. Updates include improved activity and health tracking, new dials, and other new features. More importantly, it also leaked the upcoming watch unlocking function.

Google added the ability to unlock Android smartphones paired with smartwatches in Wear OS 4, similar to the way Apple Watch unlocks paired iPhone, sammobile reported. When users wear a Wear OS 4 smartwatch, they can unlock the phone without entering a PIN / password or biometric information.

For example, when the user's fingers are wet or dirty, or when the helmet cannot be used to unlock the face, the phone can be unlocked with a watch.

CTOnews.com noted that blogger @ Mishaal Rahman recently discovered this feature in Pixel Watch. However, it seems that it will apply to all Wear OS 4-based smartwatches, including Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 6.

Later, the blogger @ roomrmando discovered the watch unlock feature in the One UI 5 Watch update. This feature is not currently available and may be released in future software updates.

The new watch unlock is different from the "trusted device" unlock, which has been available on Android devices for years. Unlocking the watch is a more secure way, and to use this feature, the user must set a PIN or password for the Wear OS smartwatch and pair it with the phone.
