The new Tesla Model 3 still offers physical shift buttons, but the position is awkward.

When Model S and Model X first adopted this design, there was a lot of doubt, and many people thought it would be inconvenient and unsafe. Some people think that it's okay for the Model S and Model X to shift gears on screen because there are other ways to shift gears, including automatic gears and manual shift buttons next to the emergency flashers on the center console.

Tesla has not yet announced whether the new Model 3 also supports automatic shift, but official pictures released by Tesla China show that the new Model 3 also has an emergency shift plan that can be used in the event of a screen failure. As you can see from the picture, the new Model 3 is also equipped with a set of physical shift buttons next to the emergency flashers, but CTOnews.com notes that these buttons are awkward near the rearview mirror on the roof and will not be convenient or natural to operate.
