CTOnews.com, Sept. 9 (Reuters)-Ned Curic, the technology director of European car giant Stellantis, the world's third-largest car company, said on the same day that the company's latest goal is to develop lighter electric car batteries that will eventually halve the weight in order to improve battery sustainability.

Ned Curic said bluntly that the current batteries of electric vehicles are too heavy, which makes the vehicles do not meet the goal of sustainable development. However, he did not elaborate on what technology would be used to develop the "lighter battery", saying only that "we have to consider new materials, new chemistry, new methods, and replace heavy materials with lightweight materials."

On the same day, the auto company officially inaugurated its battery technology center in Turin, Italy, and has invested 40 million euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 315 million yuan) in the project, which will focus on the testing and development of electric vehicle batteries in the future. In addition, Stellantis plans to set up a similar technology research and development center in Canada.

Ned Curic also revealed that it will launch a new electric car that is very affordable and "affordable for everyone" later this year. According to previous reports from CTOnews.com, Stellantis had planned to launch an electric car with a price of less than 25000 euros, inspired by Fiat's classic "Panda" model and said it would compete with Renault's Dacia Spring (Dongfeng Nano BOX overseas rebranded model) and BYD.

In addition, Stellantis will start selling Citroen's e-C3 electric car early next year, which also sells for less than 25000 euros.
