The first one in the country: Guangzhou Radio and TV Station completely shuts down the SD channel.

CTOnews.com September 11 news, today (11), the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television released a message: August 30, SARFT approved Guangzhou Radio and Television to shut down five standard definition channels. As a result, Guangzhou Radio became the first broadcaster in the country to completely shut down SD channels.

At present, of the six TV channels run by Guangzhou Radio, one is 4K Ultra High definition (UHD) and five are HD.

CTOnews.com noted that gradually shutting down standard definition channels is an important measure to promote the development of high-definition and ultra-high-definition televisions. According to the planning requirements of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, by the end of 2025, television stations at and above the prefecture level and county-level television stations with conditions will basically shut down the standard definition channels. During the transition period, television stations should convert HD signals into standard definition signals for users to receive by means of transformation within the station or at the front end of the transmission overlay network, so as to ensure public service and safe broadcasting of radio and television.
