CTOnews.com, September 12, according to South Korea's Jingxiang News, global sales of hydrogen-powered vehicles dropped significantly from January to July this year. A total of 9619 hydrogen-powered vehicles were sold globally in the first seven months, down 9.6 percent from the same period last year, while South Korea sold only 3390 hydrogen-powered vehicles in the first seven months of this year, down 38.7 percent from the same period last year.

South Korean media pointed out that the decline in hydrogen energy vehicle sales, in addition to fewer types of vehicles, more because of "lack of supporting facilities", "high cost" and other reasons.

CTOnews.com noted from the report that even Hyundai, which is the "largest seller" of hydrogen energy in the world, its car model "NEXO" and bus model "Elec City" sold 40% less in the first seven months of this year than in the same period last year, while Toyota hydrogen vehicles, which ranked second, sold only 2884 vehicles in the first seven months of this year.

Li Hengjiu, dean of Korea Automotive Fusion Technology Institute of ▲ Hyundai's hydrogen energy model "Nexo", said that the construction of a hydrogen charging station requires about 3 billion won (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 16.47 million yuan), which is by no means affordable by ordinary companies, so if the South Korean government does not promote it, the popularization of hydrogen charging facilities will be difficult to achieve.

Li Hengjiu believes that in the case of inadequate infrastructure, hydrogen energy vehicles cannot compete with electric vehicles even if the relevant departments vigorously promote them, so the industry should look at the strategic track of the automobile industry from a long-term point of view.
