Wine 8.17 release: VKD3D rises to 1.9, Wayland driver initially supports window management

CTOnews.com Sept. 30 news, WineHQ is currently in the 2-week cycle to promote the Wine 8.x version update, the team officially launched the 8.17 update today.

Wine 8.17 upgraded VKD3D to version 1.9, improving the Direct3D 12 implementation of Vulkan. The new version 1.9 improves the support for HLSL shading language and introduces new utilities for DXBC blob.

Wine 8.17 also natively supports Wayland drivers and initially supports window management. Wine 8.17 also adds SoundFont support to its DirectMusic implementation. Wine 8.17 fixed 19 known bugs and improved support for games such as Ancient Scrolls.

Wine (abbreviation "Wine Is Not an Emulator (Wine is not a simulator)") is a compatible layer that can run Windows applications on a variety of POSIX-compliant operating systems such as Linux,macOS and BSD.

Wine (Windows runtime environment) is an implementation of Windows 3.x and Windows API (hereinafter referred to as dynamic interface) on top of Linux and UNIX. Note that Wine is not a tool to simulate Windows, but uses API conversion technology to implement functions corresponding to Linux to Windows to call DLL (dynamic link library) to run Windows programs.

Wine works in most UNIX versions, including Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris. In addition, there are Wine programs for Mac OS X.
