A financial analyst is suspected of using Xbox 360 game console to chat and send illegal insider trading information.

According to the FBI, a former financial analyst named Anthony Viggiano used Xbox 360 's online Chat features to send illegal insider trading messages in multiplayer games. He was arrested earlier this week on eight counts of security fraud and one count of conspiracy.

CTOnews.com's search of the FBI indictment found that Viggiano sent illegal insider financial trading information to his childhood friend Christopher Salamone from July 2021 to May 2023 while working as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs.

The FBI investigated the two men in June 2023 and revealed in an interrogation recording that they thought chatting on Xbox 360 would not be traced.

The FBI said Viggiano's alleged insider trading would have been detected regardless of the method used. If he is convicted, each securities fraud charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, while the conspiracy charge carries a maximum sentence of five years. Salamone is charged with three counts of securities fraud and one count of conspiracy.
