CTOnews.com October 4 news, cloud storage service provider Backblaze recently released a report on hard disk failure rate in the first half of 2023, based on at least 100 SSD sampled during 10000 days of operation.

It is reported that Backblaze has been using SSD in its repository since the fourth quarter of 2018, and as of June 30, 2023, there were 3144 SSD on its servers.

CTOnews.com learned from the form provided by the service provider that the relevant SSD brands are mainly Seagate, and the rest are Western Digital, Dell, Ying Ruida and Micron products; a single SSD storage capacity is mostly 250 GB, but there are also products that deploy 500GB and 2TB.

According to ▲ source BackblazeBackblaze, the Seagate model SSDSCKKB240GZR has an annual failure rate of more than 800% because only two hard drives were deployed in the first quarter of 2023, one of which failed shortly after installation. As a result, the annual failure rate is so high.

In addition, the supplier claims that any given data may be unstable, so it is for reference only.

Factors such as hard disk age and random failures can fluctuate the annual failure rate. The annual failure rate was 0.95% in the first quarter and 1.05% in the second quarter. Backblaze also has pictures showing information about quarterly failure rates.
