CTOnews.com, October 10 news, at the previous European open source summit, Linux kernel developer Jonathan Corbet announced that the long-term support (LTS) time of the Linux kernel would be shortened from six years to two years. CTOnews.com had previously reported that Jonathan Corbet claimed that the main reason for shortening the long-term support time of the Linux kernel was "lack of use and support."

Greg Kroah-Hartman, the maintainer of the Linux stable kernel, recently claimed in a Y combinator comment that "no one is using it" is an "eye-catching title", but also confirmed that the related reason is "lack of use":

Does anyone really want to ask the developers who maintain the LTS kernel version why they made that change, that is, me?

No, I guess that will take too much effort, and it won't produce the kind of 'eye-catching title'-'the LTS kernel won't support it for six years because no one's using it.'

Over time, the resources and other support provided by the Linux Foundation to the Linux kernel community has increased, including last year.

The introduction of new projects that Linux Foundation member companies want to host does not mean a reduction in kernel community support. This is by no means a zero-sum game, nor is it the way the Linux Foundation works.
