Sources say Apple is in talks with Samsung, LG display and Chinese companies on the supply of AMOLED screens for iPad mini/Air, with a target of mass production by the end of 2025.
CTOnews.com, Oct. 11, Naver whistleblower @ anonymous reports that Apple is in negotiations for future AMOLED display supply channels for iPad mini and iPad Air, involving Samsung display, LG display and other Chinese companies (unnamed).
According to people in the supply chain, Apple aims to start mass production of these (OLED) components by the end of 2025, suggesting that OLED versions of iPad mini and iPad Air could be unveiled in early 2026. He also mentioned that Apple had decided to select Chinese companies as the target of negotiations from the very beginning.
In fact, Omdia, a display panel research company, released a report earlier this week. Omdia pointed out that Apple's new OLED iPad Pro will be launched in 2024, including 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, and is planned to be supplied by LG and Samsung displays.
Omdia analysts point out that Apple is considering widespread adoption of OLED technology from 2026 and its use in iPad mini and iPad Air products, which is the next phase of Apple's OLED strategy.
CTOnews.com has reported that 9to5Mac said Apple will release a number of new iPad products in the coming months, including the iPad mini 7 and two new iPad Air. However, the two new iPad specifications have smaller upgrades, focusing on new processors rather than major updates such as more advanced display technology.
