It will be at least three years away. Ross Young thinks Apple will release OLED MacBook as soon as 2026.
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Xiao Zhan for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, Oct. 12, according to the latest news shared by Rose Young, CEO of screen supply chain consultancy DSCC, Apple will not be able to launch an MacBook Pro with OLED panels until 2026 or 2027.
Speaking to Bloomberg Intelligence's Woo Jin Ho, Ross Young, who attended a webinar held by Bloomberg today, said Apple's existing supply chain will take at least three years to build a production line for large-scale laptop-sized OLED panels.
CTOnews.com previously reported that Ross Yang thought Samsung had invested $3.1 billion in OLED production in Asan, South Korea (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 21.328 billion yuan), and said the facilities would be used to make OLED displays for MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models from 2026.
Ross Young believes that the MacBook Pro is unlikely to adopt OLED displays before 2026, when Apple's supply chain is expected to have enough laptops to optimize OLED display production capacity.
Until then, suppliers will focus on tablet OLED displays, such as the iPad Pro, says Mr Young.
