CTOnews.com, October 12, Microsoft recently released a preview update of Win11 22635.2419 for Beta channel, which no longer splits Build 22621 and Build 22631, but promotes new features through controlled function push (CFR), so what is CFR?

CFR is simply a mechanism for Microsoft to control the push of new features and gradually introduce new features to compatible devices.

Microsoft currently provides several different ways for Win11 to deploy new features, such as Moment updates released through monthly cumulative updates, as well as half-yearly feature updates (such as 23H2), and application updates released through Microsoft Store.

Microsoft has previously enabled a feature by releasing specific updates, while Microsoft has instead used controlled push (CFR) to promote the new feature.

For example, with the upcoming features announced by Microsoft, users may not be able to access all the improvements after installing updates. Installation updates only include these new features, but many are disabled by default, and users need to check the "detect available updates to install now" option to enable these new features.

If users want to get new features, they can enable the option "install now when an update is detected" in the Win11 settings application and get the update as soon as possible. If users choose to turn it off, Microsoft will gradually push it to the device after the new feature has passed the test.

Microsoft said that in the future, it will promote Beta channel version updates based on new features, improvements and fixes, and will take the lead in pushing to users who enable the "detect available updates and install now" option, and then gradually roll it out.

Microsoft promotes content step by step through CFR technology, through Windows Insider programs and monthly optional non-secure updates. After the Microsoft development team believes that these features are ready, they will enable these new features by default in the next security update.
