CTOnews.com, October 12, according to the latest statistical report released by market research agency Counterpoint Research, shipments of VR head-display devices in China fell sharply by 56% in the first half of 2023, ending two consecutive years of growth from 2021 to 2022.

Expanding to the global market, shipments in the global VR market fell 39% in the first half of this year compared with the same period last year, and the Chinese market fell even more.

In the second quarter of 2023, China accounted for only 10 per cent of global VR shipments, a relatively low share, compared with 20-30 per cent of smartphones.

As a market leader, Pico has a huge market share of about 50 per cent. However, even Pico experienced a year-on-year decline of more than 50 per cent in the first half of 2023.

Sony has attracted Chinese PlayStation enthusiasts to buy and explore the PSVR 2 with a 19% market share because of the sharp increase in sales since its launch, but the momentum of the PSVR 2 is expected to weaken in the second half of 2023.

Big friend VR continues to take the lead in Chinese enterprises because of its competitive price, but also faces a decline in its user base because of slowing spending on digital transformation of Chinese companies. In addition to the top three, the number of competitors in China's VR field is still very limited, while iqiyi withdrew from the market due to operational difficulties.
