CTOnews.com, October 17 (Xinhua) Fortnite developer Epic Games has launched a return plan to encourage game developers and publishers to put their old works on the Epic Games store.

According to a blog post on Monday, the company said the plan, called Now on Epic, aims to make it easier for users of Epic Games stores to find old games and better compete with Steam.

Games eligible for the Now on Epic program will enjoy a 100% share of the revenue for the first six months after the launch of the Epic Games store. After returning to the standard share, they will get 88% of the income.

Game developers participating in the Now on Epic program must commit to releasing at least three games by October 31, 2023 and are already available in other third-party PC stores or third-party subscription services, such as Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. If they don't have three eligible games, they must bring all the games that have been released and launched to the Epic Games store.

CTOnews.com noted that Now on Epic plans to end December 31, 2024, and all applied games must be available at Epic Mall by June 30, 2025.

The Epic Games Store was first launched in 2018 and has built its game library through generous incentives and exclusive agreements with developers. However, it has been difficult to compete with Steam.

The launch of the Now on Epic plan comes less than three weeks after the company laid off 830 employees, or about 16 per cent of its workforce, including employees at Mediatonic Studios, the studio behind the Sugar Pac Man final knockout.
