Ford laid off 700 employees for making Fmuri 150 Lightning electric pickup trucks

CTOnews.com, Oct. 17 (Xinhua)-- Ford plans to lay off 700 workers responsible for producing FMY 150 Lightning electric pickup trucks, according to CNN. The news said the layoffs had nothing to do with the ongoing strike of the United Auto Workers.

It is reported that Ford plans to cut the Rouge electric vehicle center production line near the company's headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, changing the original three-shift system to two shifts, one of which will directly lay off staff.

Ford said the layoffs were affected by a decline in demand, saying that sales of the FMI 150 Lightning fell 45% in the third quarter from a year earlier, and that the company upgraded its production line this summer.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Chrysler parent company Stellantis and Ford said they would temporarily lay off 1250 employees due to the strike of the United Auto Workers (UAW).

Ford said it would temporarily lay off another 550people after UAW strikes at truck factories in Kentucky and assembly plants in Chicago.

Starting Monday, Ford will cut about 300 jobs at a gearbox plant in Ohio, 250 at four plants in Michigan and 12 at its Chicago plant. Ford has laid off a total of 2480 employees since the strike began on Sept. 15. Ford pointed out that the strike at the Kentucky truck plant could affect more than a dozen factories.
