CTOnews.com, October 20 (PRNewswire-Asianet /-- according to PR Newswire, Hengdian Film and Television and IMAX Corporation and IMAX China today announced a substantial expansion of their partnership to build 20 new IMAX laser cinemas in China, the largest new cinema agreement reached by IMAX in the Chinese market in four years.

CTOnews.com noted that Hengdian has maintained a cooperative relationship with IMAX since 2015, and the new agreement will bring the total number of IMAX cinemas between Hengdian and IMAX to 26. The new IMAX laser cinema will be located in Jingdezhen, Wulanchabu and Zhangjiakou. In addition, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Jiujiang, Hohhot, Yangzhou and other places will also open new stores, more stores to be confirmed.

The partnership comes after IMAX China set an all-time summer box office record, and IMAX earned more than $18.4 million (CTOnews.com Note: about 135 million yuan) in China for "Oppenheimer" directed by Christopher Nolan. "Fengshen I" has also become IMAX's best summer film in China, with IMAX accounting for 10 per cent of the film's total box office.
