Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Oct. 21 (Reuters)-EU antitrust regulators have reopened an investigation into Adobe's acquisition of cloud designer platform Figma and asked the company to make a decision on the deal by February 5 next year, according to a document submitted by the European Commission on Friday local time.
The European Commission stopped its investigation into the deal last month and waited for more information from Adobe and Figma, the report said. Regulators have received a reply to analyze whether the deal "will significantly weaken competition in the interactive design software market" within the next three months.
It is "highly likely" that Adobe will have to provide remedies to respond to questions about monopolies before regulators can approve the deal.
Previously on CTOnews.com:
On September 15, 2022, Adobe announced that it had signed a final acquisition agreement with Figma to acquire the online design collaboration startup in cash and stock for approximately $20 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about RMB 146.4 billion).
Adobe expected the deal to close in 2023, after which the two companies would continue to operate independently, but Figma's CEO had to report to the president of Adobe's digital media business. Adobe said in a statement that the integration of the two sides "will rethink the future of creativity and productivity, accelerate Web's creativity, advance product design, and inspire the global community of creators, designers and developers. The new combined company will create greater value for customers, shareholders and the industry."
In August, the EU's antitrust regulator announced that the deal could weaken competition in the global market for interactive product design tools and exclude competitors. The European Commission said it had launched a full investigation into the deal after a preliminary review raised concerns.
