Goolman explained that the new Apple Pencil is equipped with a USB-C interface to tie in with the iPad to be updated next spring. He added that Apple has been developing the 11th generation iPad, the seventh generation iPad mini and the sixth generation iPad Air for some time.

Apple is likely to release these three new iPad models in March, and the next iPad Pro is also possible, but only a few "smaller" iPad updates seem certain to be released next spring.

CTOnews.com noted that Gurman also said he expected the first-generation Apple Pencil to be discontinued along with the ninth-generation iPad, because Apple would no longer sell any new iPad with a Lightning interface. However, this change will not happen "soon".
