CTOnews.com, October 22 (Xinhua)-- Electric bicycles, as a medium-intensity exercise, can help prevent and treat type 2 diabetes, according to a study by Bristow University.

"physical activity is the key to the management of type 2 diabetes," the authors said. however, this group has a low participation rate in sports activities. Electric-assisted bicycles have been considered as a means to increase physical activity by integrating activities into daily life, while overcoming some of the obstacles of traditional bicycles. "

In a survey of the use of e-bikes in a group of study participants with type 2 diabetes, the authors explored how participants viewed the sport compared to other forms of exercise.

Participating in e-bikes is considered an easier way to control diabetes than dieting or other types of exercise, mainly because of the fun of cycling, the study found.

It is understood that 16 participants have an equal male-to-female ratio, with an average age of 59.75. there were 10 participants working full-time or part-time, 14 participants had some cycling experience before the experiment, and 13 participants used e-bikes to drive distances ranging from 9 km to 1878 km during the lease period. 56.25% of the participants completed three or more cycling courses under the guidance of the coach. At the end of the training, 15 participants were able to ride electric bikes.

The pedal assist function of electric bicycles can reduce the pressure on muscles and joints, making it an easier choice for people of different fitness levels and ages. Pedal aids enable riders to cope with rugged routes and ride longer distances without getting tired, encouraging them to stay active for longer.

Researchers agree that when cyclists find the sport less strenuous, they tend to ride longer. A 2019 study of more than 10000 adults in seven countries found that e-cyclists had significantly more metabolic equivalent task minutes per week than pedal cyclists, resulting in more exercise for e-cyclists.

Tuyuan Pixabay according to CTOnews.com, there are 480 million adults worldwide with diabetes, nearly half of whom do not know they have the disease, and nearly 90% of diabetes cases are type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is mainly caused by a bad lifestyle, and poor diet and obesity are the two main factors.
