American public welfare organizations petition Microsoft to extend the support time of Win10 system
CTOnews.com, October 28, PIRG, an American public interest research organization, recently launched a petition asking Microsoft to extend the support cycle of Win10 system because of environmental protection and many other factors.
Microsoft plans to stop supporting Win10 in October 2025. PIRG believes that of the 1 billion devices currently using Win10, more than 400 million devices do not meet the requirements for upgrading Win11 systems, meaning these devices do not have security protection and will eventually be thrown into the trash.
CTOnews.com note: PIRG urged Microsoft to reconsider Windows 10 support, saying there will be the largest wave of "junk computers" after Win10 devices are stopped, which will have a significant impact on the company's sustainability.
"there will be a day when all systems are no longer supported, but given the huge impact on our environment, we think Microsoft should extend the support cycle and have more time to deal with it," PIRG said.
PIRG launched the "Design to Last" campaign, where director Lucas Rockett Gutman (Lucas Rockett Gutterman) submitted a petition to Microsoft to extend the shelf life of Windows 10 beyond 2025 to prevent a potential nightmare scenario in which a large number of hardware had to be scrapped.
