Shortly before the strike in Tennessee, UAW said it had reached a temporary labor agreement with Stellantis.

Shawn Fain, chairman of UAW, said the strike at the plant in Chunshan was ordered because GM was "hesitant" in the face of contract terms based on UAW's agreement with Ford on Wednesday and with Stellantis on Saturday. "We are disappointed that GM has unnecessarily and irresponsibly refused to reach a fair deal."

GM responded that it was disappointed with the strike and was still seeking to "reach an agreement as soon as possible."
