In 2019, Tesla Model 3 of Micah Lee suddenly veered off the road on a highway in Los Angeles. The car hit a palm tree and caught fire.

The accident killed Lee and seriously injured two passengers, one of whom was an 8-year-old boy. The lawsuit alleges that Tesla knew that Autopilot and other active security features were flawed when he sold Model 3 to Lee.

Tesla denied any fault and said Lee had been drinking before driving the car. Tesla also said it was impossible to confirm whether Autopilot was enabled at the time of the accident.

The jury finally found that Tesla was not responsible for the accident because they did not find a defect in the Autopilot system.

The opening statement of the case took place on September 28, and just a month later, the jury reached a verdict that Tesla Autopilot was not responsible for the accident.

CTOnews.com noted that this is the second lawsuit filed against Tesla Autopilot this year. In April 2023, a jury found that Justine Hsu was responsible for a roadside accident in which Tesla's car crashed, resulting in a broken jaw, facial nerve damage and several teeth lost. Hsu claimed that Autopilot suddenly swerved the car to the side of the road and claimed $3 million. The California court finally ruled that Tesla was not responsible.
