CTOnews.com, Nov. 8 (Xinhua)-- Ubisoft announced today that it will fire a total of 124 employees from its visual effects studio Hybride and its global IT team.

It is reported that Ubisoft visual effects studio "Hybride" is located in Montreal headquarters, the studio has participated in the production of "Ahsoka", "The Mandalorian", "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan", "Beau Is Afraid" and other games.

Antoine Leduc-Labelle, a spokesman for Icon Ubisoft at ▲ Hybride Studio, said 98 of the 124 affected workers were in Canada, accounting for less than 2 per cent of the company's workforce, so it "did not affect Ubisoft's game development process".

"in the past few months, every team at Ubisoft has been exploring ways to simplify our operations and improve collective efficiency so that we can achieve better long-term success," Leduc-Labelle said. "these are not rash decisions. Affected employees will receive severance pay, extended benefits and vocational assistance."

This year has been particularly difficult for the gaming industry. In September, IGN reported that Ubisoft had asked more than 4000 of its employees to return to the company's online offices.
