Ventana cooperates with Imagination to develop CPU-GPU platform based on RISC-V

CTOnews.com, November 8, according to Jon Peddie Research, Ventana Micro Systems and Imagination Technologies announced a partnership to build a CPU-GPU platform based on RISC-V.

CTOnews.com Note: Ventana Micro System launched RISC-V-based data center-class Veyron V1 CPU IP in December last year, with up to 8-bit wide execution capability and 3.60 GHz frequency.

The CPU IP design packages 16 cores for each cluster and can scale to 192 cores to meet the high performance requirements of applications. However, the CPU IP currently has only the CPU part, and lacks graphics capabilities to expand it.

To build such a heterogeneous SoC,Ventana, turn to Imagination Technologies, one of the most experienced GPU IP companies. Both companies are key members of the RISC-V International and RISC-V Software ecosystem (RISE) projects and are staunch advocates of open architecture.

Ventana hopes to cooperate with Imagination Technology to develop a RISC-V-based CPU-GPU platform, so as to create a platform that can meet a variety of application needs.

Ventana plans to present a simulation model at the next RISC-V Summit to show how CPU and GPU work together. With their combined expertise in CPU and GPU, the two companies are fully capable of bringing new configurations to the RISC-V open architecture.

Ventana also plans to showcase Veyron V2 CPU, further improve RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA), and enhance its ability to compete with Arm and x86.
