CTOnews.com, November 8 (Xinhua)-- Martijn de Vos, a developer named devos50, recently tweeted that his QEMU has made a new breakthrough and can successfully run iPhone OS 2.1.

CTOnews.com reported last December that devos50 spent more than a year reverse engineering to simulate Apple's original iPhone OS for iPod touch in 2007. He says it takes a lot of effort to simulate multi-touch support and other hardware components.

Devos50 polished the relevant code again and successfully made QEMU simulate the iPhone OS 2.1 system on the second generation iPod Touch, and most of the multi-touch, LCD drivers and so on can work properly.

Although iPhone OS 2 is out of date, it is the first version of App Store and may support running third-party applications in the future.

Devos50 said that there is still a lot of room for improvement in the relevant code, such as the current iPhone OS simulator does not support audio or Wi-Fi.
