Wine 8.20 release: meet the request of 13 years ago, you can register URL to open the specified application

CTOnews.com November 11 news, WineHQ is currently in the 2-week cycle to promote the Wine 8.x version update, the team officially launched the 8.20 update today.

Wine 8.20 is updating to focus on legacy error reports, one of which dates back to 2010.

Wine has always been able to automatically register file type associations and build menus under Linux. The 2010 BUG report requires that you can register the URL / URI protocol to open the application, and use Spotify URL as an example, hoping that the Linux desktop can automatically open the corresponding Wine application.

CTOnews.com note: due to the lack of cross-desktop methods for registering protocol handlers, the Linux platform has not advanced a way to handle URL protocol open applications.

Wine-Staging released a patch earlier this year to create .posts files for programs that open URI. Now the changes have finally been made in this week's Wine Git to turn off error reporting from 13 years ago.

In addition to exporting protocol associations to the (Linux) desktop, Wine 8.20 continues to work on DirectMusic API.
