Former CEO Emmett Shear of Twitch confirms that he will serve as interim CEO of OpenAI
CTOnews.com, Nov. 20, according to The Information and Forbes, OpenAI's board of directors has chosen Emmett Shear, former co-founder and former CEO of Twitch, as interim CEO.
Emmett Shear confirmed the news in a post on social platform X today, saying he received a call today inviting him to consider an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become interim CEO of OpenAI. After discussing and thinking with his family for several hours, he accepted.
The move comes after OpenAI's board sent a memo to employees saying that Sam Altman, its former chief executive, would not return to his job and appointed Emmett Shear as interim chief executive. In the memo, the board said Schell "has unique skills, expertise and relationships that will move OpenAI forward" and said it was "the only way to advance and defend OpenAI's mission".
It is worth mentioning that Microsoft CEO Nadella announced on social platform X earlier today that OpenAI founders Sam Altman and Brockman will join Microsoft and will lead the new Microsoft artificial intelligence team. Nadella said he would quickly provide the required resources to the Altman team.
