Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com November 24 news, wafer-less semiconductor company SiFive engineer Samuel Holland two days ago submitted a new driver patch to add AMD Navi graphics support for RISC-V processors.

RISC-V CPU is currently compatible with AMD's older x86 GCN GPU, while GPU driven by Navi architecture is not supported by RISC-V due to the use of different graphics codes.

According to the driver description, users can be compatible with RISC-V graphics cards using AMD on motherboards such as SiFive HiFive Unmatched that are compatible with Navi processors.

The driver also adds CONFIG_DRM_AMD_DC_FP initialization code to enable kernel mode FPU support.

CTOnews.com Note: this code is currently under review and is expected to be incorporated into the Linux 6.8.After launch, users will be able to use new AMD graphics cards such as Radeon RX 7900 XTX on the RISC-V platform.

While the compatibility of the RISC-V platform with modern GPU is a major milestone, it will take years to run 3A-level games and content creation tools on the RISC-V platform.
