Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, November 29, BMW has applied to the EU intellectual property Office (EUIPO) and the German Patent and Market Administration (DPMA) to register the pure electric iM3 trademark, which is still under review. This means that BMW is expected to launch a pure electric high-performance car or station wagon based on a new generation architecture in the future.

According to previous reports, the next generation of BMW's M3 pure electric model will be developed using the Neue Klasse new generation architecture and will be available as early as 2027. BMW's new-generation pure electric model is expected to be equipped with a sixth-generation eDrive electric drive system, supporting 800V high-voltage systems and high-energy density battery packs, which can increase battery life by 30 per cent and reduce costs by 50 per cent. BMW's goal is to reduce the manufacturing cost of pure electric models to the same level as BMW's most advanced internal combustion engine models.

BMW M brand officials said that the new platform has up to 1 megawatt (1 megawatt = 1000 kilowatts) of installed power to use, but the next generation of pure electric M3 models are unlikely to have this level of power. He believes that vehicle dynamics will determine the way M electric vehicles will be driven in the future, thus distinguishing BMW's products from competitors.

CTOnews.com noted that at the same time, BMW has not given up on the development of the fuel version of the M3, and has developed an upgraded version of the 3.0T six-cylinder engine, which already meets Euro 7 emission regulations, which means that the life cycle of the fuel version of the BMW M3 may overlap with the new pure electric version of the BMW M3. The BMW M3 is currently on sale with a 3.0L in-line six-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 510hp (375kW) and a peak torque of 650Nm. The acceleration time of the rear-drive Thunder version and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive Thunder version is 3.9s and 3.5s respectively, and the transmission system matches the 8-speed M Steptronic hand-integrated gearbox.
