Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, December 6 (Xinhua) in the field of electric vehicles, German Tesla owner Hansj ö rg von Gemmingen-Hornberg has created an incredible milestone when his 2014 Tesla Model S P85 has covered nearly 1.2 million miles (CTOnews.com).
It is reported that the Tesla Model S has covered 1.18 million miles since 2014, equivalent to an average of about 1.31 million miles per year. At a time when electric cars are often questioned for not being able to drive long distances, Gemingen-Hornberg's experience proves that electric cars can drive a lot of miles.
Tesla founder Elon Musk (Elon Musk) congratulated Gemingen-Hornberg in 2019, when his Model S mileage had reached 1 million km. Today, his mileage has almost doubled.
GE Mingen-Hornberg, who previously owned a Tesla Roadster, managed to drive 400,000 miles despite a lack of charging infrastructure at the time. Then he chose the more spacious and more comfortable Model S. It is worth noting that he bought a second-hand 2014 Model S with a mileage of 18641 miles.
It is well known that some of the early Tesla Model S electric cars had problems with their rear motors, and Germingen-Hornberg's car was not spared. During the nearly 1.2 million miles of travel, the rear drive motor of the Tesla Model S has been replaced 13 times. Together with the original motor, a total of 14 motors have been used. Most of the motors replaced by GE Mingen-Hornberg were renovated, but because Tesla did not know the real problem at that time, he could not repair the motors effectively, resulting in the failure of some of the replaced motors quickly.
As for the battery pack of the vehicle, its performance is better than that of the motor. So far, three battery packs have been replaced in the Model S. Over 1.2 million miles, the average battery pack can use about 400,000 miles (about 643700 kilometers), which is a pretty good performance in the industry.
Gemingen-Hornberg said he was careful not to drive the Model S for a long time, taking a break after about 62 miles at a time. In terms of battery charge and discharge, his habit is to charge when the battery drops to 20%, so that the battery will not be completely exhausted and will not be fully charged.
In addition to the motor and battery, the appearance and interior of the Tesla Model S are also maintained quite well. Unfortunately, Gemingen-Hornberg did not elaborate on the status of other vulnerable parts of the car, such as brakes, tires and so on.
So how did Germingen Hornberg drive at such a high frequency? First of all, he is retired and enjoys driving around the world. The Model S has already traveled through Africa, Morocco, Sweden, Austria and China. And this is just the beginning, because Gemingen-Hornberg wants to keep driving the Model S so that it can drive more miles and break more records.
