CTOnews.com December 13 news, according to foreign science and technology media SamMobile reports, based on the latest exposure of mobile phone screenshots, show that the Galaxy S24 series mobile phones will have satellite communications functions.

The screenshot page shows "send emergency text messages via satellite", which reads: "if the user's range does not cover the network signal, Samsung will provide a connection through the satellite network to ensure that users can send emergency text messages."

CTOnews.com reported in August that South Korea's Minister of Science, Technology and Information Communications Lee Chong-Ho said that domestic smartphone brands are expected to launch a service next year to enable data transmission between 5G mobile phones and satellites.

Since Samsung is the only large smartphone brand in South Korea (LG has closed its smartphone division), this suggests that Samsung may add satellite communications to its phones next year.

Two-way satellite communication means that smartphones can connect to low-orbit satellites and make emergency calls and send messages without mobile network coverage, a function that allows users to get rescue or medical assistance when they get lost or in danger. Huawei and Apple phones already have satellite communication capabilities.

Park Yong-in, chief executive of Samsung's System LSI division, confirmed in October that he would support satellite services for emergency contact from next year, suggesting that the Galaxy S24 series of phones to be launched next year would support two-way satellite communications.
