CTOnews.com news on November 21, according to a document disclosed by foreign technology media The Verge on July 15, 2018, Google Deputy Director and General Manager Phil Harrison (Phil Harrison) put forward the idea of cooperating with Tencent to acquire a 100% stake in Epic Games.

Fortnite has become very popular with players in 2018, becoming a phenomenal game and the "treasure trove" of Epic Games, with annual revenue of $5.5 billion.

Google plans to form an alliance with Tencent to buy a full stake in Epic Games, which will help strengthen Google's co-ownership of Fortnite. If the plan does not work, the alternative is to buy 20 per cent of the shares at a price of $2 billion.

CTOnews.com reported in 2021 that Google had considered buying some shares from Tencent to control Epic Games, and another option was to work with Tencent to acquire a 100% stake in Epic.

According to public information, Tencent won 48.4% of the issued shares of Epic for US $330 million in 2012, equivalent to 40% of the total shares of Epic, making it the largest shareholder of Epic.

Through this equity acquisition, Epic is theoretically an associate of Tencent, which has the right to nominate directors on the board of directors of Epic.
