Since we began to use virtual machines on a large scale, we often encounter insufficient hard drives. Today, I would like to give you a brief description of the hard disk expansion method of virtual machine hyper-v under windows server 2008 for your reference:

1. First shut down the virtual machine that has been created, and then enter the settings.

The VHDX virtual hard disk must be mounted to the SCSI controller. Because the function of expanding or compressing the capacity of a virtual hard disk can only be performed on .vhdx files that have been attached to the SCSI controller. VHDX files attached to IDE controllers are not supported.

Note: the VHDX virtual hard disk then mounted to the IDE controller cannot be resized online

2. Click the above image to edit the virtual hard disk wizard

3. Follow the prompts to click next according to your current environment.

4. if there are no special requirements, choose the extension to continue to the next step.

5. Specify the size of the expanded virtual hard disk, specify according to the remaining space of the hard disk, then save and exit, and open the virtual machine to enter disk management (Note: disk management in the virtual machine)

6. Next, we will officially expand the hard disk. First, right-click the mouse to prepare the disk for expansion (here is system disk c)

7. Click expand Volume to enter the expand Volume Wizard, and then click next

8. Adjust the expansion value (here 102400 is the maximum expansion value, and my expansion value is 12400), and then click the next step directly.

9. In the last step, complete the expand volume wizard, click finish, and finish the expansion.

10. Compare the disk values before and after. The first screenshot is the original value.

11. This screenshot is the value after the expansion.

Note: disk expansion has a certain risk of data loss. It is recommended not to easily expand the capacity or do a good job of data, so as to prevent data loss from being unable to be restored, resulting in unnecessary trouble.
