Problem description

When installing software on a Windows system, you will be prompted for a default installation path, such as:

Default installation path for 64-bit systems:

C:\ Program Files\ [Software name]

Default installation path for 32-bit system

C:\ Program Files (x86)\ [Software name]

Both 64-bit and 32-bit systems will be prompted to install to disk C by default, and disk C is our default system disk. If there are too many files on disk C, it will cause our system to stutter slowly. Seriously, it is necessary to reinstall the computer system. So when we install the software, we usually modify the installation directory of the software, but we have to modify it manually every time, which is more troublesome. Here are some ways to solve this problem once and for all.

Skill use

Take the Git-2.10.0-64-bit.exe installation as an example. After double-clicking the git installation file, you will be prompted with the following interface:

The native system is Windows 8.1 64-bit, and the default path for installing 64-bit programs is shown here.

Because this skill needs to modify the registry, so friends who are worried can back up the registry in advance. The modification steps are as follows:

Open the registry

The shortcut key Win + R opens the running window and type regedit:

Enter and open the registry window:

Find the specified registry key

Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion item and click CurrentVersion, as follows:

Modify default path parameter valu

Click the ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir (x86) items in the options on the right side of CurrentVersion, and modify the value to a custom default directory. The following figure shows the ProgramFilesDir (64-bit default installation path) modification icon:

Reopen the Git-2.10.0-64-bit.exe installer, and the default installation path is as follows:
