This article describes how to install the Xfce desktop environment and LightDM (Light Display Manager) in the CentOS8 Linux operating system.

When installing the Xfce4 desktop using the epel-release software source in Centos8, it is found that the installed desktop is Gnome3, and many xfce tools cannot be opened. So after a few days of research, through the Fedora28 Server version of the system, download the installation package and copy it to Centos8, you can install it successfully, and record the installation process here.

Environment

CentOS Linux release 8.2.2004 (Core), CentOS Linux release 8.0.1905 (Core)

Install xfce4

The xfce4-related installation packages used here are downloaded from the Fedora28 system, and the installation in Centos8 may be unstable. It is found that there is a problem with Firewalld after installation. If it does not hinder the use, you can disable Firewalld.

Don't play like this in the production environment, this experiment is just a test.

I have put the installation package related to Xfce4 on the network disk: https://share.weiyun.com/VqEEZio1, download it locally, and then upload it to Centos8.

# install lrzsz and upload the downloaded package to the system. [root@localhost ~] # dnf-y install lrzsz tar [root@localhost ~] # rz # extract the file, enter the folder, and start installing [root@localhost ~] # tar xvf Xfce_fd28.tar.gz [root@localhost ~] # cd Xfce [root@localhost Xfce] # dnf install-y *-- skip-broken-- nobest

Set boot to the graphical interface

# boot lightdm display manager [root@localhost ~] # systemctl enable lightdm # launch the graphical interface [root@localhost ~] # systemctl set-default graphical.target Removed / etc/systemd/system/default.target by default. Created symlink / etc/systemd/system/default.target ú / usr/lib/systemd/system/graphical.target. Turn off the firewall [root@localhost] # systemctl disable firewalld Removed / etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/firewalld.service. Removed / etc/systemd/system/dbus-org.fedoraproject.FirewallD1.service.

Set up Chinese display

Installation in Chinese:

[root@localhost ~] # yum-y install wqy* glibc-langpack-zh

Modify / etc/locale.conf:

[root@localhost ~] # sed-I picket zh_CN.UTF-8'/ etc/locale.conf [root@localhost ~] # cat / etc/locale.conf LANG= "zh_CN.UTF-8"

Restart the system and go to the desktop to have a look:
