CentOS8 Minimal

Install GNOME3

First list the Groups that can be used in the network source:

[root@localhost ~] # yum grouplist

Next we need "Server with GUI" under "Available Environment Groups", and the desktop environment used by this "Server with GUI" environment package is GNOME3. Install below and download the installation package for approximately 1GB:

[root@localhost ~] # yum groupinstall "Server with GUI"

Installation complete!

Set GDM to boot

Check to see if gdm.service is started and find that the gdm service is not started.

[root@localhost ~] # systemctl status gdm ● gdm.service-GNOME Display Manager Loaded: loaded (/ usr/lib/systemd/system/gdm.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Active: inactive (dead)

Set gdm to boot and start the service immediately:

[root@localhost] # systemctl enable gdm-- now

Set the system boot level to graphical

By default, the default startup level for CentOS8 is multi-user.target.

[root@localhost ~] # systemctl get-defaultmulti-user.target

The following sets the startup level of CentOS8 to graphical.target

[root@localhost ~] # systemctl set-default graphical.target Removed / etc/systemd/system/default.target.Created symlink / etc/systemd/system/default.target ú / usr/lib/systemd/system/graphical.target. [root@localhost ~] # systemctl get-default graphical.target

Enter the GNOME3 desktop

After setting up the above configuration, restart the operating system. Enter the welcome screen:
