CTOnews.com Black Friday is the unofficial name for the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, and this year it refers to Friday, November 24.

MasterCard SpendingPulse released its report Saturday local time. Retail sales rose 2.5 percent year-on-year on Black Friday, excluding auto sales and adjusted for inflation, according to the report.

Friday's e-commerce sales rose 8.5 percent year-over-year, while in-store sales rose 1.1 percent, as consumers bought deals online, the report showed.

MasterCard SpendingPulse had forecast in September that U.S. retail sales, excluding auto sales, would grow 3.7 percent in the Nov. 1-Dec. 24 holiday shopping season.

Adobe Analytics data shows that during Black Friday this year, U.S. shoppers spent a total of $9.8 billion online (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 70.07 billion yuan), in line with Adobe Data and Insight Department expectations.
