It is worth mentioning that on November 23, the main contract of lithium carbonate futures of Guangzhou Stock Exchange fell by more than 3% within a day, falling below the 130,000 yuan/ton mark, setting a new low since listing on July 21,2023. At the beginning of listing, the contract price was still maintained in the price range of 246,000 yuan/ton, and the lithium carbonate futures price was close to the waist in just 4 months.
According to CTOnews.com, lithium carbonate, as the main raw material for lithium battery production, has exploded with the growth of new energy vehicles in recent years. In November 2022, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate was once close to the high point of 600,000 yuan/ton. Then it quickly entered the downward channel, and the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate dropped to 200,000 yuan/ton in April 2023.
The continued decline in the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate may lead to a decline in the price of new energy vehicles, but there is no inevitable connection between the two. In the near future, Tesla prices will not fall but rise, and there is often a certain time difference between the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate and the price of new energy vehicles, because automobile enterprises generally order battery raw materials one quarter or half a year in advance.
