CTOnews.com, December 7, do you want to know the actual age of each organ in your body? Scientists have come up with new insights after testing 4979 proteins.

Everyone's growth and living environment are different, and the actual age and physiological age are not equal. The aging process can lead to deterioration in the structure and function of organs, which increases the risk of most chronic diseases.

At present, there are many methods to evaluate biological aging in the medical field, but most of them provide a single whole body measurement and can not give the age information of specific organs.

The team invited 5676 adults between the ages of 20 and 90 to measure 4979 proteins, focusing on the effects on 11 organs, organ systems or tissues of the heart, lung, brain, kidney, liver, pancreas, intestine, muscle, fat, immune system and blood vessels (vascular system).

Scientists marked proteins in one organ that expressed more than four times as many genes as other organs, and eventually measured 856 proteins, accounting for 17.9%.

The scientists then trained machine learning models to input these highly expressed protein data to assess the actual age of 11 organs.

They also trained an "organism" model that uses organ-specific plasma proteins and a "conventional" model that uses all proteins to compare the contribution of specific organs to common gain characteristics.

Researcher Wyss-Coray said in an interview:

Compared with adults without obvious serious illness, we found that 18.4% of respondents over the age of 50 had at least one organ aging significantly faster than average, and that organ had a higher risk of disease over the next 15 years; the risk of death is 6.5 times higher than that of people without any obvious aging organs.

In terms of specific organs, people with accelerated heart aging have a 250% increased risk of heart failure, an increased risk of heart attack and atrial fibrillation, and an increase in a single standard deviation of the brain age gap. The clinical risk of cognitive decline increased by 34% within five years.
