CTOnews.com, December 8 (Xinhua)-- BYD, which was "tight-lipped" about the company's shipbuilding and buying ships, finally confirmed the relevant facts today, according to the Financial Associated Press. BYD said that "the company is indeed buying ships" and "the company has chartered two ro-ro carriers from Yantai, Shandong Province, and the delivery time is next year."

Caixin and other media quoted relevant sources as saying in October last year that BYD affiliated companies planned to order eight ro-ro ships with a capacity of 7700 cars at a shipyard in Yantai, Shandong Province, at a total cost of nearly 5 billion yuan. Six of them are basically confirmed to be built, and the other two are option orders. However, BYD did not respond positively at the time.

Comprehensive CTOnews.com previously reported that on January 23 this year, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group, announced the successful entry into force of two BYD Group 7000 vehicle dual-fuel PCTC (car transport ships) construction orders.

Guangzhou Shipping International said that the order is the first time that BYD Group has ordered a car transport ship as the ultimate consignor, which will break the "bottleneck" situation of European shipping companies for a long time and ensure the stability of BYD's export supply of new energy vehicles.

In November this year, the official account of Guangzhou Shipping International announced that the BYD 7000 dual fuel vehicle Carrier (PCTC) project No. 1, undertaken by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group, had started construction in Nansha, Guangzhou. Then, on December 4, not long ago, according to Weibo @ small Di KuaiBao, BYD car ro / ro carrier EXPLORER 1 successfully completed its first seven-day trial in Yantai, Shandong Province.

BYD 7000 dual-fuel PCTC ship is a PCTC series ship under construction by Guangzhou Shipping International. The ship has a total length of 199.9 meters, a width of 38 meters, a design draft of 9 meters, a design speed of 18.5 knots (CTOnews.com Note: about 34.262km/h), a natural gas (LNG) / fuel dual-fuel propulsion system, and is equipped with battery system and shaft generator for the first time. At the same time, the use of energy-saving devices, drag reduction and antifouling paint and other energy-saving measures, is a green, intelligent, environmentally friendly and efficient automobile transport ship.

The project plans to build a total of two ships, with BYD as the final owner. To sum up, the two shipyards in Yantai and Guangzhou are expected to contribute up to 10 ro-ro ships to BYD's sea fleet.
